- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir and let sit for 5-10 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Let the dough rise for another 20-30 minutes.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Remove from the oven, let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
- For a softer crust, brush the top of the bread with butter after baking.
- If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour until it becomes manageable.
- This bread can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
