Description

A simple and delicious homemade white bread, perfect for sandwiches or as a side for any meal.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir and let sit for 5-10 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Let the dough rise for another 20-30 minutes.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  9. Remove from the oven, let cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • For a softer crust, brush the top of the bread with butter after baking.
  • If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour until it becomes manageable.
  • This bread can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
