Description
The Homemade Sonic Double Smasher Burger features two juicy beef patties, smashed for a crispy edge, topped with melted cheese, pickles, and a special sauce, all sandwiched between a toasted bun. A perfect homemade version of the classic Sonic burger.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 beef patties (4 oz each), 80/20 ground beef
- 2 burger buns
- 2 slices American cheese
- 4–6 pickle slices
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp mustard
- 1 tbsp yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp olive oil (for cooking)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat a griddle or large skillet over medium-high heat. Drizzle with olive oil.
- Season both sides of the beef patties with salt and pepper. Place them on the hot surface and press down firmly with a spatula to smash them into thin patties. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until a crispy crust forms.
- While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns on a separate pan until golden brown.
- Once the patties are cooked, add a slice of cheese to each patty and let it melt for about 1 minute.
- In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard to create the special sauce.
- Assemble the burger: Spread a layer of the special sauce on the bottom bun. Add a cooked beef patty with melted cheese, then top with pickle slices and chopped onions. Add the second beef patty on top, then close with the top bun.
- Serve immediately with your favorite side, such as fries or onion rings.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add bacon strips or lettuce to the burger.
- Make sure the patties are smashed thin to get that crispy edge that makes the Sonic Double Smasher Burger so iconic.
- If you like it spicy, add some jalapeños or hot sauce to the burger.
