Description
Pepperoni Pizza Grilled Cheese is a delicious mash-up of two favorite comfort foods—grilled cheese and pizza. Crispy, buttery bread surrounds melted cheese and savory pepperoni, with a hint of marinara sauce for that pizza-like flavor.
Ingredients
Units
Scale
- 4 slices of bread (your choice, such as sourdough or white bread)
- 4 slices of cheddar cheese
- 4 slices of mozzarella cheese
- 8–10 slices of pepperoni
- 1/4 cup marinara sauce (plus more for dipping)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning (optional, for extra pizza flavor)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each bread slice.
- Place one slice of cheddar cheese and one slice of mozzarella cheese on the non-buttered side of two slices of bread.
- Add 4-5 slices of pepperoni on top of the cheese, then spoon a small amount of marinara sauce over the pepperoni. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning, if using.
- Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up.
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Once hot, place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese is melted. Press down lightly on the sandwiches for a few seconds to ensure even grilling.
- Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them rest for a minute before cutting in half. Serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, try adding a few red pepper flakes to the marinara sauce or using spicy pepperoni.
- Feel free to swap the cheeses or add extras like bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms to make it your own.
- If you don’t have marinara sauce, pizza sauce or even ranch dressing can work as a substitute.
