Ingredients
Units
Scale
- 1 medium cauliflower, cut into florets
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup corn starch
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil for frying
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce (optional for heat)
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
- In a bowl, mix flour, corn starch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Gradually add water to create a smooth batter.
- Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter and carefully fry in the hot oil until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In a separate saucepan, whisk together ketchup, rice vinegar, honey, soy sauce, and sriracha sauce (if using). Heat over medium heat until it simmers and thickens, about 3 minutes.
- Toss the crispy cauliflower in the sweet and sour sauce until well-coated.
- Serve immediately, garnished with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.
Notes
- For a lighter version, you can bake the cauliflower bites instead of frying them. Just toss them in the batter and bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Adjust the sweetness and sourness to your preference by adding more honey or vinegar.
- These bites are best served fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and reheated in the oven for a crisp texture.
