Description

Crispy, golden cauliflower bites tossed in a tangy sweet and sour sauce, perfect as an appetizer or snack for any occasion.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 medium cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup corn starch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce (optional for heat)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, corn starch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Gradually add water to create a smooth batter.
  3. Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter and carefully fry in the hot oil until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. In a separate saucepan, whisk together ketchup, rice vinegar, honey, soy sauce, and sriracha sauce (if using). Heat over medium heat until it simmers and thickens, about 3 minutes.
  5. Toss the crispy cauliflower in the sweet and sour sauce until well-coated.
  6. Serve immediately, garnished with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, you can bake the cauliflower bites instead of frying them. Just toss them in the batter and bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Adjust the sweetness and sourness to your preference by adding more honey or vinegar.
  • These bites are best served fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and reheated in the oven for a crisp texture.
