Description

This Turkey Taco Skillet is a quick, one-pan meal packed with flavor, featuring lean ground turkey, seasoned with taco spices, and topped with melted cheese. It’s a satisfying, low-carb dish that’s perfect for busy nights.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, avocado, lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables soften.
  3. Add the minced garlic and ground turkey. Cook for 7-10 minutes, breaking up the meat as it cooks, until browned and cooked through.
  4. Stir in the taco seasoning, salsa, and water. Let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes until it thickens and is well combined.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the turkey mixture and cover the skillet. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until the cheese melts.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with optional toppings like sour cream, avocado, and lime wedges.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a chopped jalapeño to the skillet.
  • You can substitute ground chicken or beef for the turkey if preferred.
  • Serve with a side of rice or lettuce for a low-carb meal.
